Alchemizing Grief & the Solar Eclipse

The solar eclipse represents a descent into the darkness, our womb energy. A rich, fertile place where we store our most powerful emotions, often afraid to let them see the light of day. It is here that we have the opportunity for rebirth. Eclipses are times of transformation. Many of us have felt this energy strongly since the lunar eclipse in March. These cosmic events shake us up, and a descent into the darkness leaves us feeling out of control. It also presents an incredible opportunity when we can stay grounded and mindful.

Grief

Unprocessed grief lives in these dark places, and we are all going through a grieving period, individually and globally. How can we not grieve when we feel so disconnected? When we see what is happening in our world today?

Grief is felt in our hearts and lungs. Our breath is shallow and we can't access our life force. We lose our roots. If we don't allow ourselves to drop deeply into grief, we become even more separated from our loved ones, and from Mother Earth. This leads to leads to more intense grief...We feel unstable and unanchored as if there is nothing solid to hang on to. When we slow down, ground, and alchemize our grief, we access a potent portal for growth. Grief opens our hearts and makes us better and more compassionate human beings. Grief unites us, gives us a deeper understanding of our place in the Universe, and increases our magnetism. We never get over grief, it becomes part of us, and we are more complete because of it.

When we grieve we enter an altered state of consciousness. Grief is a portal into another dimension. I've spoken to many people who have had the same experience. Grief allows us to access the sacred. We become present & aware. Time slows down. The world stops. All that exists is the breath, space, and being.

This solar eclipse is offering us a powerful opportunity to feel, to be, and to transform. Allowing us passage into the deep, dark, fertile place that is essential for our rebirth.

What can we do at a practical level?

Slow down - don’t take on any extra commitments or responsibilities

Feel what you are feeling - Many of us are so disconnected from our bodies that we can't even recognize the emotions we are carrying. Sit quietly & breathe. What can you feel? Where in the body is the sensation? Are there parts of your body that you don’t feel? Can you put a name to your emotions?

Spend as much time as possible - Walk barefoot on the grass, sit with your back against a tree, and lie on Mother Earth. If you live in a city, go to the nearest park. Or simply spend time with your plants and breathe.

Breathe into your belly & pelvis -  Sink the breath into the lower belly and even deeper, filling the pelvic bowl. If this is difficult, practice relaxing on your back with a heavy book on your belly, and allow the book to rise and fall with the breath. Be gentle with yourself and go slowly. When we learn to breathe deeply, we land back into our bodies. We re-find our roots and our connection with Mother Earth. Buddha Breath is an ideal practice. https://www.deborahjayne.com/videos

Move from your hips and pelvis - The home of our Earth & Water energies and essential to keep us grounded and in our body. Feel the heaviness of your tailbone and sacrum. Move your hips in circles or spirals, and sway a little more as you walk.

Sufi Grind - Sit in an easy pose, place your hands on your knees, and circle the waist. Go slowly & breathe. Feel the weight of your lower body anchored into the Earth. You can visualize spiraling energy moving downward from your tailbone like a root system.

Spinal Flex - This can be done in easy pose, kneeling, or sitting on a chair. Sink the sit bones downwards and open the heart to the sky. Rooting down to rise. The head stays still and the shoulders relaxed. Then sink and arch the lower back bringing the navel in towards the spine. Move slowly & mindfully. This creates a wave-like motion of the spine whichcalms our nervous system and allows us to come into our body, feeling deeply connected.

Primal Movement - A perfect practice for this time. Primal movements allow us to feel in the body the places where we are holding difficult emotions. Our somatic intelligence takes over, and through slow gentle, and sometimes fast, powerful movements, we release blockages and bring these emotions into our body awareness. Allowing us to express and process them in a way that is very healing for us.
